The Magic of Fire

I am mesmerized by fire.  It awakens all my senses.  It dances, twirls, and leaps.  It crackles and pops.  It creates aromas of nourishment for the body, mind, and spirit.  It warms and transforms.  It contains the spark of life.

In fact, fire is one of the five elements – along with water, wood, earth, and metal – first described by physicians in ancient China. These elements, also known as rhythms, create their own system in your subtle energy body.  They capture the flow of life and govern much of how you show up in the world.

Fire is the rhythm of summer.  Just as the summer months reveal nature’s abundance and inspire an exuberance for barbecues, campfires, and outdoor living, people with a dominant fire rhythm have an uncontained zest for life.  Their excitement for all things is contagious.

Have you ever noticed how some people always seem to be the life of the party?  How some people are naturally easy going and carefree? How some people exude passion and joy?  These are characteristics of people with a dominant and balanced fire rhythm.

But a fire rhythm that is out of balance can lead to burn-out, an inability to set limits, and roller coaster rides of ups and downs.  Panic, hysteria, and overwhelm can set in and be immobilizing.  Insomnia, anxiety, and internal chaos can be signs of a fire rhythm imbalance.

Do any of these symptoms sound familiar to you?  We all have each of the five rhythms in our energetic makeup.  So even if fire is not your dominant rhythm, your fire rhythm can still be out of balance.

The good news is that with simple, non-invasive energy medicine practices a rhythm that is out of balance can be rebalanced within a matter of minutes.  And there are simple exercises you can do to reinforce a balanced system.  Is it time to get your rhythms tested?  Is it time to replace panic and overwhelm with passion and joy?
