Chakra 2:  The Essence of You

Introduction to Chakras

The Chakra System is one of nine energy systems in the subtle energy body.

First described thousands of years ago by yogis in what is now India, chakras are spinning energy wheels or discs.  There are seven major chakras located along the central axis of the physical body, the spine.  They stretch from the base of the spine to the crown of the head.

These seven chakras correspond with physical, mental, and emotional stages of human development.  As they spin, fresh energy is brought into the body and stagnant energy is removed.  Chakras also function as energy processing plants.  They carry information about your personal life journey as well as your ancestral story.  They support and govern the functioning of your physical body and the organs that lie in their energetic field.

This series of blogs focuses on these seven major chakras – one at a time.

The Womb Chakra

The second chakra, also known as the Womb Chakra, is located in the sacral area of the torso.  It is basic to the survival of the spirit.  It is the seat of your natural innocence, wonder, and joy.  It is the “womb” of creativity for both women and men.

Physical body parts that are influenced by the Womb Chakra include:  the female reproductive organs, bladder, small intestine, large intestine, pelvic girdle, sacrum, and lumbar vertebrae.

Characteristics of the Womb Chakra include faith and trust, delight and passion, aesthetic sensibilities, intuition, and natural healing.  It governs movement and flow, expansion, and pleasure.  The Womb Chakra holds your innocent essence – free, pure, unafraid – before the hardships of life began to shape your personality and world view.

When your Womb Chakra is unbalanced with too much energy, you may experience addiction to pleasure, to sex, or to sedating chemicals.  Daily life may be governed by your emotions.  You may become excessively sensitive emotionally.  You may have poor boundaries.  You may become emotionally dependent or obsessively attached.

An underactive Womb Chakra may lead to fear of change, frigidity, or rigidity.  If your second chakra has too little energy, you may exhibit poor social skills, emotional numbness, a lack of desire, passion, or excitement.  You may even avoid pleasure altogether.

A balanced Womb Chakra opens your capacity for pleasure and your comfort with intimacy.  It allows you to nurture yourself and others.  Your emotions are balanced.  Your boundaries are healthy.  You have the ability to feel life deeply.

Does this resonate with you?  Are you feeling like your emotions are out of control?  That your personal boundaries are too porous?  Do you fear change?  Have you become emotionally numb?  Has your desire, passion, and excitement for life dried up?

If so, perhaps it’s time to get your Chakra System tested.  A chakra that is unbalanced can be rebalanced in a matter of minutes.  Don’t you want to be able to go with the flow of life?  Don’t you want to live life from your purest essence?  Don’t you want to reclaim your creativity, passion and joy?
