Chakra 5: Finding Your Voice
Introduction to Chakras
The Chakra System is one of nine energy systems in the subtle energy body.
First described thousands of years ago by yogis in what is now India, chakras are spinning energy wheels or discs. There are seven major chakras located along the central axis of the physical body, the spine. They stretch from the base of the spine to the crown of the head.
These seven chakras correspond with physical, mental, and emotional stages of human development. As they spin, fresh energy is brought into the body and stagnant energy is removed. Chakras also function as energy processing plants. They carry information about your personal life journey as well as your ancestral story. They support and govern the functioning of your physical body and the organs that lie in their energetic field.
This series of blogs focuses on these seven major chakras – one at a time.
The Throat Chakra
The fifth chakra, counting up from the base of the spine, is the Throat Chakra. It integrates information from all the other chakras for internal communication and external expression. It moves energy down from the Crown and Third Eye Chakras and up from the Root, Sacral, Solar Plexus, and Heart Chakras. This movement is facilitated by seven energetic chambers, making the Throat Chakra unique in how it influences balance in the chakra system.
The Throat Chakra holds and metabolizes information of all the chakras. It senses whether what you say and hear resonates with your deepest truth. It helps you express yourself in your unique way. It helps you stay true to yourself.
Physically, the Throat Chakra sits in the throat and encompasses the organs and structures associated with the throat, such as the thyroid and parathyroid glands, tonsils, vocal chords, tongue, mouth, neck vertebrae, and shoulders.
A balanced Throat Chakra is characterized by a steady, rich voice. When your Throat Chakra is fully developed, you tend to be a good listener. You communicate clearly. You have a good sense of timing and rhythm. You are creative.
If you talk too much, your Throat Chakra may be overenergized. You may have a hard time listening to others. Your voice may dominate a conversation. You may interrupt to keep talking. You may engage in gossip.
Conversely, if your Throat Chakra has too little energy, you may be afraid of speaking. Your voice may be small, weak and difficult for others to hear. You may have a hard time putting your feelings into words. You may be shy around others. You may consider yourself to be an introvert.
How do you relate to this balance of internal and external voice? Are your channels of communications in sync? Do you tend to dominate conversations? Is it hard for you to listen? Do you gossip about others? Is it hard for you to speak up and be heard? Are you shy or introverted?
If you answer yes to any of the last five questions, perhaps it’s time to get your Chakra System tested. A chakra that is unbalanced can be rebalanced in a matter of minutes.
Don’t you want to resonate with your deepest truth? What would it feel like to express yourself honestly and clearly? Are you ready to hone your unique voice?
